  When they are self righteous they do not consider there is anything wrong with them. They aren't sinners who need a mediator.

  Yes - they misuse Jesus' words for the sake of winning hearts and minds. They use little bits of the Bible as bait and reel you in.

  They aren't the only ones though:-

  The Coolidge-Conservation collection calls attention to the careers of four major publicists during the 1920s: two advertising men, Claude Hopkins of the Chicago agency Lord & Thomas and Bruce Barton of Batten, Barton, Durstine, and Osborne; and two public relations agents, Ivy L. Lee and Edward L. Bernays. Hopkins and Barton embody the driven ad-man image; both seem to be have suffered nervous breakdowns at one time or another in their careers. Bernays, on the other hand, seems to have been consistently energized by his career as "Public Relations Counsel."

  In "From Salvation to Self-Realization: Advertising and the Therapeutic Roots of the Consumer Culture, 1880-1930," an essay in The Culture of Consumption (1983), T.J. Jackson Lears describes high-powered salesman Claude Hopkins as a "phrasemaker who had sold astonishing amounts of beer, lard, and patent medicine by using what he called the 'Reason Why' approach. . . . Hopkins refused to appeal to a buyer's reason by listing a product's qualities; on the contrary he addressed nonrational yearnings by suggesting the ways his client's product would transform the buyer's life . . .   Bruce Barton, son of a Congregational pastor, founded with Roy S. Durstine what by the 1920s had become the fourth largest advertising agency in the United States, Batten, Barton, Durstine, and Osborne. (For a portrait photograph of Bruce Barton, see the June 1926 issue of Associated Advertising, p. 7.) Barton was responsible for creating the Betty Crocker image for General Mills.   Hi Waton

  Watchtower certainly make for dodgey fishermen. Jesus Christ, the Son of God was full of loving kindness and mercy. A genuine Christian congregation is full of warmth, happiness, trust and friendship. Watchtower publishers promise you this but actually bring you into an ice-house nest of vipers.
  

  Yes a white shark in a Kingdom Hall can be a very nasty surprise for them. Eagles are good too.

  So the GB like to make out they are in Jehovah's chariot. Personally I think they are in a unicycle rickshaw with a puncture. But if they insist they are in a chariot then they are in King Arthur's. They've nipped off for some salmon fishing and sent Anthony out for the Macallan's.

  Terry, do you or anyone else know why he close down?

  I remember this site used to be informative. Looking at it again I see the home page is showing that the Watchtower is the pagan image from the head of an idol. I think the idol is Artemis and it means bear like King Arthur.

  organization and congregation seems to give so much attention to the pioneers and the hours.

  encouraging the members to get even the 30h at the month of c/o visit even if they don't complete the minimum of the hours.

  why do they give so much praise and attention to pioneers?

  If you are in good-enough standing you can pioneer on 0 hours a month. Although it was not spelt out to me, I told the CO that I could not continue pioneering because I could no longer do the hours or anything like. However the CO did not want me to step down. Whatever I could do was acceptable. For me that was 0 hours. But I imagine I would have been expected to lie or have a plausible excuse every month/year. However no one would have questioned me.
  

  But what happens to your conscience when you lie about something this stupid? You don't have to do it so why do it unless the status is important to you.
  

  I think they main things was that they could get me on the platform and use me as an example. But I wasn't going to mislead others so I stood down.

  Also I know of elders and their wives who would REGULARLY have it announced that they were pioneering get the applaus, then they would just not do it and say they had been ill.

  I was recently told that some religious teachers say it's ok to hit your wife, gently. Nice eh? Just strike her like Thunderball?
  

  Maybe the teachers think that men's needs are more so they give less.

  Anyway (tongue in cheek alert) here's a video a local congregation put together video as they perform yet another a new Kingdom Melody. They got a great soloist on this. They sing this song when a new elder or MS is appointed.

  We get told about the child abuse cover ups. But some years after I joined the congregation I found out there was some poor sister who had endured beatings from her husband. This man was an elder at the time. Eventually he ditched her and went off with another. She was a kind, hospitable and gentle person.

  Joey jojo - the issue is one of trust. Just like WT's 1914 a message can be spun from statistics which is religious. In this case the value is health. But what are the facts. How reliable are the facts? The figures that go into the statistics - how can you PROVE they are reliable?

  Some ideas to ensure the data is ok - get the figures sent to you. Process it yourself. Have the details of every individual used in the data. Ensure all individuals in the data are actually still alive (or have been born). Scrutinized the figures to ensure demical points are in the right place. Make sure odd 0s haven't been added here and there.

  When receiving data - check the figures looks comparable to at least 3 years worth of exactly the same data - maybe more - try 16 years just in case. If certain numbers are way out, make a phone call to the person who sent it and patiently stand up to them until (having abused you to within an inch of your life) they finally admit they lied to you through their teeth.
